2 Steps for Success - Becoming a Person of Value.

Work until your bank account looks like a phone number; what a great quote isn't it? well if you search on the web you will find a lot of articles describing how to build success in life, most of the articles, present formulas, steps, and advice on how to get success, the mainstream media portray success as having a lot of money, a big house, travel all over the world, faster cars, etc ( American dream isn’t it?) because of this portrayal of success the fight for success was never so obvious, everybody wants to be successful, nobody wants to be a failure. Athletes work hard for a long time because they don't want to lose any competition, business people lose time with family because they want to become successful entrepreneurs. students end up in high debts because they want to have a higher education that will uplift their status in society, And this idea of success is leading people to depression, bitterness, and individualism, this is why more people are studying business and going to law schools, in this article I will be exploring the idea of success in eyes of those that are already successful according to the mainstream media, and I will describe what the bible states about success, I hope you enjoy this article.

In a small search about this topic I bumped with an article from Insider Magazine that was quite a surprise for me, Insider did research to know how some entrepreneurs defined success. They invited the Huffington Post co-founder Arianna Huffington, the Legendary basketball coach John Wooden, and the Legendary investor Warren Buffet.

According to Huffington, we tend to think of success along with two metrics — money and power — we need to add a third. "To live the lives we truly want and deserve, and not just the lives we settle for, we need a Third Metric," Dan Schawbel, "the third measure of success that goes beyond the two metrics of money and power, and consists of four pillars: well-being, wisdom, wonder, and giving." Together, those factors help you to take care of your psychological life and truly be successful.

With 620 victories and 10 national titles, Wooden is the winningest coach in college basketball history. But his definition of success was more about competing with yourself than the other guys. Peace of mind attained only through self-satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to do the best of which you're capable.

With a net worth of $85.6 billion, Buffett is just about one of the wealthiest people in the world, And yet his definition of success has nothing to do with money or fame. As James Altucher writes, the chairman of Berkshire Hathaway once told shareholders at an annual meeting: "I measure success by how many people love me."

I believe we could point out many entrepreneurs that believe that success is more than just money and power, but let me bring another's perspective of success and to understand success let me provide my 2 steps for success, these two steps are based on a conversation that Jesus had with some pharisee ( Matthew 22:37-40).

The Bible states that God gave us commandments to follow, these commandments are there not just to be told in a church but to guide and direct our earthly life, the book of Matthew Jesus resumed these commandments in just two, and these two commandments I call the two steps for success. “Matthew 22:37-40 New International Version (NIV) Jesus replied “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself..”

You may say I already knew this, or you may say this is irrelevant, but I tell you, this all about success, when you start loving God and your neighbor, you will become a person o value, To be a person of value, you have to become genuinely interested in people enough to solve a specific problem for them, this means you have to love them, Think of what you can do to make lives better. The more people you solve problems for, the more valuable and influential you become. A person of value is a person that has something to give, a person of value makes friends make money, even if they don’t have money the money will come to them, a person that people will look for, a person that has something to give. let me illustrate more.

When you love your God you are recognizing your human nature, that you are not perfect, you make mistakes, and even if you make mistake your God, can forgive you, and if God can forgive you also can show forgiveness. and remove the guilty from your heart, according to Midpathcare.com guilty is a dangerous feeling and is unique goes from feeling sad and upset – guilt often combines feelings of shame, anxiety, frustration, and humiliation. These emotions can well up inside and build over time, most especially if we never admit to ourselves that we were at fault. Guilt can majorly affect our sense of self-worth and self-esteem. Learning to love God will affect everything in your life, if you want to be successful start by loving God.

When you start loving your neighbor you start recognizing that life is not made to go alone, that you need a friend that is better going two than one, this way you will go farther, achieve more and your life pursues. Jesus walked with others, Paul had friends, in your ministry, in your daily life make friends, be a friendly person, if you don’t have a friend, life will be hard, make a friend be a friend. look at some passage of the bible about a friendship, 1 Thessalonians 5:11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing, Ecclesiastes 4:9 Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor.

To resume, if you want to be successful follow these two steps and I assure you that you will become a person of value and ultimately a person of success.
